Wind, Swell And Cancellations
It comes down to the size of the boat. Smaller boats start pulling the pin at around 20 knots, bigger boats at around 30. The islands protect you for the first part of the trip, but once you're past the outer islands it's open water, and sustained wind builds a big swell out there. That last stretch to the reef can be a very uncomfortable ride on a windy day.
