Whitehaven Beach
Matador Whitsundays Tour visits Whitehaven Beach for around 2 hours. During this time you embark on a bush-walk from Tongue Point (northern end of Whitehaven), this walk takes around 15 minutes, once at the top you will experience Whitehaven Beach above on the viewing platform. This breathtaking view from here lets you see all 7 km of the beach as well as the world-famous swirling sands that form the inlet
Snorkelling Coral Reefs
During your 2 day tour, you will get at least 2 opportunities to snorkel the coral-filled bays on the coastal fringes of the islands. Here you can see turtles, Maori wrasse, batfish, parrot fish, clown fish (Nemo) plus plenty more! in most bays, the coral starts close to shore and is easily accessible by the small tender boats. For nonconfident swimmers, there are noodles and flotation devices available for safety.

Matador Whitsundays Reviews On Google
My friends and I did this trip as part of our girls' getaway, and it was honestly one of the highlights. Everything was extremely well organized — from the timings for snorkelling, to having the food ready, to the visits to the islands. We had the best opportunity to see the best sunset and sunrise ♥️🏝🙏
Carys, Raley, and Tony were so friendly, attentive, and always made sure everyone was comfortable and happy. It really made a difference.
The food was delicious, plentiful, and there was even enough for seconds if you wanted more!
One of my favourite parts of the trip was the stop at Whitsunday Island — we got to spend a couple of relaxing hours there for photos, swimming, and walk, it was simply beautiful.
I had brought a jacket thinking it might get cold at night, but the weather in April was actually perfect — pleasantly warm the whole time.
Such a memorable experience.
Thank you to Carys, Raley, and Tony, amazing Matador crew!
The itinerary was thoughtfully planned with stunning snorkelling spots. The food was delicious, and the boat itself was spacious and very comfortable — perfect for relaxing between adventures.
An unforgettable experience. Highly recommended!
He was extremely rude to the passengers but also to his crew, in front of everyone.
Instead of asking us to leave a positive review because « he only gets bad ones and it makes him look bad », he should question himself and work on his way to treat guests.
We didn't pay for this excursion to be yelled at and feel like we were in the army. This is unacceptable.
Safety conditions were not always met and we had several scares. Unplanned hikes done in flip flops while the team itself did not know the path we were going to take. Undeveloped path on which we had to walk alone because the supervisors were not waiting.
Unsupervised snorkeling. Also, the spots weren't the best.
The mental pressure was high because we always had to hurry for everything, the captain took the liberty of reprimanding us.
We wish courage to the other members of the crew, who tried everything to make the excursion more enjoyable.
The sailing trip is a must but don't do it with Matador.
The crew were great! Milga and Alessia were so friendly and answered all of our niggling questions. They also prepared the best spaghetti bolognese for us and all sent us into a food coma cause we couldn’t stop eating.
Thoroughly enjoyed this tour and wish I could do it all over again
However, Dave (the captain) was the rudest and most impolite person I have ever met in my life. It felt like in each sentence he spoke he insulted someone on the boat (not in a funny way, just straight disrespect, also towards his own crew). We asked the crew the same day how they keep up with him, because they were very friendly and fun to talk to. I would rate the overall experience better, but since the person in charge left such a bad vibe on the boat, one star seems more than fair.
You’ll have plenty of time to snorkel, you’ll go to the Hill Inlet Lookout, and at the beach below should have a good shot at seeing stingrays.
The food is plentiful and at night they put on the blue lights so you can watch the dolphins hunt squid right by your boat.
At night it was very hot in the boat, but I don’t think that’s tour specific, you’d probably face this problem on any boat this time of year. We also got unlucky with the rain at night, or else you could’ve slept on the deck outside where you get a cooler breeze.
After 3 weeks in Australia this is definitely one of my highlights!
Snorkelling each day and slept on deck under an amazing display of stars
Dave and Gus made everyone laugh with the numerous tales and chats
beginning with the crew they were all such sweet and funny people that cared for our wellbeing and made the trip special and unforgettable. Especially Dave the captain has my heart. It is very rare to meet a tour guide that is NATURALLY funny and truly knows the best spots for us costumers to visit. Also just the way he thinks is inspiring and you can learn a lot from him. I sadly read some negative comments referring to Dave and I just can say that only people without the ability to understand good Humor and people that just can’t have a good time without finding someone to blame for something wrote these comments.
Moving forward to the activities I went snorkelling quiet a few times before this trip but I NEVER saw so many interesting animals and corals than I saw during this trip. Sharks, turtles, rays, dolphins swam either next to our boat or right underneath me. The corals were colourful and huge!
Besides the snorkelling we visited Whitehaven beach at the right time so that we had the whole beach for ourselves.
We slept on the deck of the boat and saw some beautiful stars and the mesmerising sunrise the next day.
The food war prepared with love (thanks to Gus) and nobody had to be hungry at any point because there always were enough snacks in between.
I also read some negative comments about food, toilets, noises etc. and I just want to say if you want to have a huge luxurious toilet with golden ornaments, caviar for lunch and a place so quiet that you could hear a needle falling to the ground, maybe you’re right and a adventurous sailing tour that allows you to connect with nature and feel free is not the right trip for you.
But if you are keen to see Australias beautiful flora and fauna and sail with a funny and caring crew that knows the BEST spots, the matador boat should be one of your future places to stay!
The experience is fantastic: we had Whitehaven beach just for ourselves, snorkeling was absolutely insane and the sailing is incredible!!!
We slept on the deck under the stars and enjoyed the marine life around the boat.
It’s the perfect blend of fun, chill and unforgettable memories.
100% recommended!!
The things to mention would be the behaviour of the captain, calling guests/customers retards, gaylords and making insensitive jokes about dead Palestinian children would put anyone off.
Sleeping is tough, this should be expected as you’re sharing a cabin with 20+ people. It’s going to be very hot, even more humid and noisy. Nothing they can do for this really but you need to be aware of it.
They give a list of everything you should do across the two days but the reality is you won’t do all of them as tides and timings mean not everything can be done so expect to miss out on one or two things from the list.
You’ll have a good time, stay away from captain Dave and you’ll have a great time.
Dave and crew provided perfect vibe: good communication and they fostered connection between all the people. Super recommended
Thanks mate ! Really appreciate it.
Cheers
Pauline and Elisa
Great team on board a very big thank you to Captain Dave and skippers Karis and Amin! A crossing a little windy but very pleasant and controlled by the crew! Nothing to say about the quality of the services received! Very good food simple and in quantity, absolutely beautiful snearkling, first come to Whitesunday beach alone or almost for long hours and departure at the best timing to leave just before the massive tourism! Superb cultural experience thanks to our Captain Dave; visit of an Aboriginal sacred place cellar with ancient painting recounting and proving the very ancient presence of the first men on this earth!
A big thank you to Dave for his professionalism, his experience, his sense of humor and for sharing his passion with me!
I recommend this experience and this crew to all! You won't be disappointed!
However, this is a one star review because of the captain of the matador boat, Dave. I already read plenty of reviews on tripadvisor etc., and I can just truly agree that Dave is the MOST rude, unprofessional, mentally abusing and narcissistic person I ever met in my life.
It was just completely embarrassing to see how he treated his two fellow crew members (who did an awesome job by the way). He made constantly fun of them and yelled very aggressively at them.
I truly hope that someone at Matador Whitsundays will read the online reviews and comes to understanding that Dave is not the person who should be captain on the Matador boat!
After the most stressful month at work, my partner and I booked this experience to celebrate our anniversary. When we got to the meeting point (we didn’t eat so we would be on time) the Matador crew showed up after 40 mins of us waiting.
We thought we could just forget about the wait and enjoy but as soon as we get to meet the captain, Dave, such a bitter old man, always yelling at staff AND CUSTOMERS aboard. We paid several hundred dollars to be abused by this individual. He asks for help and then treats you like garbage because you don’t know how to do the things he asks you to do (that by the way, we shouldn’t do, we shouldn’t be pedalling and helping them with the sail when we paid for those details to be sorted).
The beds are underneath the gathering area, which means it is extremely noisey and really hard to fall asleep.
The food was also quite disappointing. Want meat? Bite your tongue because they only provide carbs, no protein.
Big shoutout to Molly and Misty (?), so approachable and great to sail with, beautiful staff members, always keen to help, who were also often abused by Dave.
So if you read this review, avoid a nuisance and book your experience with another company.
But the money was returned easily.
We had a breakdown for 3h30 which meant that we lost a lot of time during our 2 days on the boat, no accommodation or compensation was taken based on this incident. The diving equipment was all damaged. The crew was really unpleasant. Sometimes they even allowed themselves to talk to us aggressively. The snorkeling sites are clearly all damaged. The second we did we clearly stayed 10 minutes watch in hand. In the toilets and the shower most of the time we had no light we had to go there with our portable lamps.
Clearly disappointing.
Lots of love Hannah and Amy.
- the crew is lovely and very funny (thanks Dave, Maeve and Fraser)
- the food is amazing : a lot of different choice. We are vegan and they’ve always cooked in a different pot for us, how lovely is that!
- the activities are incredible! We’ve been to Whiteheaven beach for 3h, we’ve done 3 snorkeling spots, we saw sharks, little and big fishes, turtles, and ray! Amazing to swim with them!
- we all slept together on the deck, with the stars, lovely memory!
Absolutely everything was perfect, thank you so much for these amazing 2 days, I’ll never forget it!
Sleep quarters were hot and unbearable due to heat. No fans. I slept on a hard deck with my pillow and sheet…as no roll up beds are provided. Stench from toilets was disgusting and people using them through out the night. Loud noise every time toilets were flushed.
Food was kids camp menu-spaghetti, wraps etc. No drinks just tap water.
We brought our own alcohol but drinks couldn’t be kept cold because no sufficient amount of ice 🧊.
The deck hand were great 👍 and did their best to make us comfortable.
There are much better tours out there.
We had an awesome group on board, with people from all over the world. More then the half of us was travelling solo, and the age was in between 25 and 30.
I would definitely recommend this vessel!
Recommend this cruise.
